Ruth Gerson graduated Princeton University Magna Cum Laude in 1992 where she studied contemporary songwriting and jazz with Scott Burnham, Steve Mackey and Anthony Branker. Ruth has developed her method of vocal instruction from a broad range of studies including Michael Langham (Juilliard) to both father and son Marty and Don Lawrence (Mick Jagger, Bon Jovi, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Bono, Lady Gaga). Her technique includes training in breath support, breath placement, positioning of the tongue, mouth, jaw and palate, and intensive ear training. Special interests in biology and the physiology of the voice inform Ruth’s singing techniques and the Singing-belt System. Gerson’s background in theater and dance (High School of Performing Arts, NYC, British American Drama Academy, Oxford) differentiates her work with students from other vocal coaches, as she addresses stage presence and audition techniques. Gerson also helps students cultivate repertoire suitable to their voices and interests. For songwriters, Gerson has developed many techniques for beginners and advanced composition and performance. Ruth also teaches students interested in complimenting their voice and songwriting work with piano, guitar and music theory.
Ruth Gerson is the founder of San Francisco Vocal Coaching with locations in Union Square, San Francisco and in San Carlos, CA (mid-Peninsula).
